The world’s oldest continuously inhabited settlement becomes a hotspot for the Open Data movement.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Matera in southern Italy was the European Capital of Culture in 2019.<\/span> The city is the oldest permanently inhabited place in the world known to us.<\/span>\u00a0The Sassi, the cave dwellings of Matera, have been inhabited for 9,000 years and have made it a popular filming location for major international productions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

While poverty, decay, youth outmigration and organized crime characterize southern Italy, a different development is taking place in Matera.<\/p>\n

The film follows a group of young creatives who have deliberately returned to Matera to set up the co-living collective “Casa Netural”. With their projects, they show the possibilities for shaping society in rural regions on the periphery of Europe in the age of the Internet.<\/p>\n

In the wake of the Capital of Culture project, they aim to transform Matera into a hotspot for the Open Data movement in order to put a halt to corruption and organized crime through maximum transparency.<\/p>\n

They find unexpected support for their efforts.<\/p>\n
